I'm sure that the release of this film wasn't exactly timed, but it came at a good one. With all of the racial tension that's present, Spike Lee sends a powerful message. All throughout this film white audiences are presented with moments and feelings that we wouldn't truly understand. Lee incorporates footage and stills of Martin Luther King Jr, racial brutality, and other famous black soldiers to give us a perspective that's hardily, if ever, talked about.
The five main protagonists are on a mission to find the remains of their lost brother Stormin' Norman in Vietnam, along with a consignment of gold they lost when they were stationed there. This movie has it all; brotherhood, action, love, and forgiveness. And while my only gripe is the fact that Lee used the same actors in the present day shots as well as the flashback scenes, this movie has the right idea at heart.
Check it out on Netflix now!
